Need On The Golf Course? It's Easy If You Do It Smart.

Rangefinder, Do you need one?

Rangefinder

Looking out at your distance that you need the ball to go can be tough to read and locate.  Most golf courses have distance markers usually in the center of the fairway that will help you to judge your distance to the green.  If you want to have a way to get that distance fast and accurately you can purchase a distance rangefinder at Fairway Golf USA.  They have a great list to choose from but I have a couple from Nikon that I would like to show you here so you have some idea of what they are and how they will work for you out on the golf course.

Nikon COOLSHOT 20

  • 550-yard range
  • Compact design
  • Easy to use

The Nikon COOLSHOT 20 is a laser rangefinder that has the capability to get those measurements you need up to 550 yards.  Now not all golf courses are going to have the need to find a golf shot at 550 yards but it can’t hurt to have this in your bag just in case you wanted to step up and play a round on a golf course that has this kind of distance.  This model is the most compact and lightweight unit that Nikon Golf makes in this size rangefinder.

The rangefinder has a single button design with an 8-second picture window for you to find a target and get that range you are looking to find for your next shot at the green.  With the 8 seconds you have, you can shoot at just on an object or move from one to the next.  Each object you stop on your going to get an accurate distance to that object.  Of course, if this isn’t enough time to get your distance just start over and you can get that accurate distance.

Another cool feature with a rangefinder is that it is rainproof.  So if your out on the course and it starts to rain but you really want to finish your round of golf you don’t need to worry about this getting wet and chancing it getting ruined.  And if your crazy like me who lives in Wisconsin and have golfed in sleet or even snow which really makes a white ball hard to find you still don’t need to worry about it.

With the rangefinder being so small you are able to keep it in your pocket or golf bag and be able to use it very quickly.  The Target Priority technology helps you to target that one object your shooting for and get very accurate measurements every time you turn it on.  Again with the single power button you turn it on and can get that perfect distance for 8 seconds.  Plenty of time to decide on which club you are going to need for the shot on the green or the next drive you need to make.

Rangefinder, Do you need one?

All in all the Nikon COOLSHOT 20 looks like a great partner to have in the golf bag since we all can’t have a caddy with us out on the golf course.  It would be nice to have one along for the ride though.  Now if your headed to the PGA tour remember these are not allowed to be used on tour so start to learn your distances quickly and how to read the golf course your playing.  Since I’m not going on the tour anytime soon one of these will be put to great use out on the golf course and can handle any weather you put it in.

And you can find all of these rangefinders at Fairway Golf USA just a click away from checking out these rangefinders.

Nikon COOLSHOT 80 VR

  • Compact design
  • Single measurement
  • Continuous measurement
  • 8-1,000 yard measurement

Rangefinder, Do you need one?

Now here we have another Nikon COOLSHOT that you can use for finding your golf shot distances.  It has a range from 8 yards to 1,000 yards giving you plenty of range to look at the next hole if you need.  The 80 VR has an optical vibration-reduction system that has been created for the golfer looking for fast and rock-solid views to the green or tree they are looking at.  Even with a person who may have shaky hands or are just full of adrenaline on the chance of beating your buddy on the course.  You are going to get the yardage measurements you’re looking for.

The rangefinder has a compact design for comfort and the ability to put it in your pocket while golfing.  If you don’t want it bothering you it will fit nicely into your golf bag.  As you are using the rangefinder you have some choices on the view you are looking at.  The first is the single image alignment,  which will give you the option to find the one target you need and get that distance fast and easily.

The second view that you will get is going to be a continuous view with measurements as you go along in the 8 seconds you have to look at your target.  Helping you to decide on your club for the shot landing where you would like it and not end up in the sand trap or worse the water.

Rangefinder, Do you need one?

Another nice thing about this rangefinder is if you are wearing sunglasses or have to wear eyeglasses you don’t need to remove them when finding your golf shot range.  It has a very wide range of temperature usages.  From 14 F which is too cold for most people to golf in anyways but it will work for you if you really need to get that last round in before winter.  The hottest temperature that it will work in is 122 F.  Again that’s really hot so drink a lot of water and prepare yourself for lots of sweat.

All in all the Nikon COOLSHOT 80 VR is a very capable rangefinder that is a step up from its little brother above.  Still capable of getting the distance measurements you need in all kinds of weather and different temperatures.  You can find this at Fairway Golf USA and the other two are also available just click on the link and go get yourself a new view on the golf course.

Nikon COOLSHOT Pro Stabilized

  • Large temp range
  • Super stable design
  • 5-year warranty

Rangefinder, Do you need one?

So the last rangefinder we have in this list is the Nikon COOLSHOT Pro Stabilized.  This rangefinder is two or three steps from the others in the list as it has the ability to help you with the different slopes whether it is up or down.  Super accurate at short and long ranges and very stable with the distance measurements.

Now with the other two above you didn’t have that option of figuring out the slope in your shot it just gave you the distance.  The amazing thing with this rangefinder you will be able to plan for that 50′ uphill shot and add to your club choice.  Also with your downhill shots or the unsure distance within the trees around the green, you will be able to see the flag and get that distance you are looking to read.  With the confidence having this in your hands and it being so stable you won’t have to worry if this is reading correctly for you.

On the side of the unit, it has an actual distance indicator that will light up to show you it’s spot on for you.  Another great thing with this unit is that it is waterproof and fog proof.  So looking into it when the weather is not how we want it on the course you won’t worry about getting that awesome view and measurement.

Rangefinder, Do you need one?

As you are viewing your distance you will have a very clear picture and precise distance measurements.  Having this in your hands will be one of the greater things in your golf arsenal on playing to your best abilities.  You can find this rangefinder at Fairway Golf USA by clicking on the links and checking them all out.

So really I just wanted to get you these three rangefinders compared to each other because they step up in better levels as you go.  The first will, of course, be the cheaper of the three above but it doesn’t mean it won’t work for you.  They all have a great range and compact design for you to use out on the golf course so it’s only a matter of going to check them out and purchase the one you need for your golf game.

All of the photos in this post are courtesy of Fairway Golf USA and I thank them for the use of the photos.

As always feel free to leave any comments or questions for me and I will get back to you as soon as possible and thank you for reading through some more golf equipment options above.

Thank you

Douglas

  1. My Dad is a big fan of golfing and he has always mentioned about the range finder and how well it will really help his game. He spoke about the Nikon COOLSHOT Pro Stabilized but I never really understood how they work. Now that I see, I fell that it will be a bit expensive in comparison to the other two because of the added features to detect the slopes. That’s a very good one. I will want to buy that as a gift for my dad though. Thanks.

  2. I have never been golfing. I feel so uncultured. Right now, since one of my teenagers is interested in starting to golf a little for leisure in the spring, I’m trying to figure out what to get him for Christmas. I think one of these would be great. Of course, as a beginner, maybe something less fancy would be in order. Everyone else will probably be getting him golf balls. I really don’t know, but I think one of these would be handy and unique. I’ll check them out.

    • I don’t want to tell you that’s not a good idea but just starting out if he hasn’t golfed at all it might be better to find him some beginner golf clubs.  If you go to Fairway Golf USA they have some options for golf clubs for all levels.  They even have Japanese golf clubs.  Golf balls, golf tees, and golf clubs and the best start for a beginner.  You can add a golf bag or buy the entire set as a group so the bag comes right with the golf clubs.  Good luck and if you would like more information please let me know I can help you out.  They have so many choices of clubs and equipment that it can be hard to choose what the right club set is.  Again thank you and let me know in the future.

  3. Thanks Douglas for your comprehensive review.
I’m amazed at the technology that these rangefinders have to be so small, convenient and also give accurate golf distance results.  Its also really convenient how you can hone in on a target and get the range you are looking for to get on the green.  This would be very useful to those wanting to better their golf game, take it to the next level or who have eyesight issues.
I am in this last category, I cannot judge distances very well due to an eyesight defect that I have.

I like how you have described the key features in detail.  As a beginner, 550 yards would be sufficient for me, I saw that you said they are available at Fairway Golf USA.  How can they be bought online?  I couldn’t see any links to buy?

Thank you for your thorough and insightful review.

    • The links are located either on the right side of the main page or at the bottom of the page.  I am working on getting them into my post but as I just started out with this I am working on it as we speak but wanted to get this out for people to read and get some information.  Thank you for the info and I hope you can find a good use for one if you purchase.  I am going to be getting one in the future as I look into them more.

      Thank you

  4. I have seen a couple of people who usually talk about the range finder but I never really knew what it was and how it worked. I dont know if this is a new technology but it really is a good one. I did not have a budget for this before but I will make sure that I bookmark this post so that I can buy it later when I am ready. Thanks

    • It is not a new technology as far a the rangefinder goes, but it is really nice that you can have so many options to choose from and different price ranges.  Take a look on Fairway Golf USA they have so many options just click on the link in my webpage and it will take you right to the site and you will be able to compare them and find what you would be looking for.  Good luck out on the golf course and hope you find one that will work with your level of golf.
